Polls Apart Cymru 2007
Together with the disability organisation Scope we are re-launching Polls Apart Cymru for the Welsh Assembly Elections. We will be again undertaking an audit of polling stations across when Wales goes to the polls.
The purpose of the research this year is to identify if local authorities have taken the steps outlined in the Electoral Administration Act 2006. We also hope to monitor ongoing progress towards an accessible election for all.
The research methodology is in many ways unique as conducted by volunteers who visit poling stations to identify if they are accessible. Their results are then either sent back or uploaded via a website into a database.
Ruth Scott Head of Policy and Politics Scope said:
"We have already had lots of interest from disabled people and disability
organisations to take part. It is really exciting that so may people
want to play their part in helping make polling stations accessible."
Suzanne Jones, manager Scope Cymru said:
"It’s great that Wales is again taking a lead in ensuring that
everyone has the same opportunities to vote."
