Open Source Policy
The Pollen Shop is a collection of people and ideas. Our philosophy is simple - collaboration works.
One of the ways we put this into practice is through our open source policy. The aim of this is to allow collaboration with people we don’t directly work with.
The term “open source” usually describes software where the programming code is made available freely so it can be modified and improved upon. We have extended this idea to the key services we offer. Although we are unable to provide these services for free, we will as far as possible provide examples of the structures and processes that we have found successful. This may be of particular use to smaller voluntary sector organisations.
We also welcome developers to look at the code that lies behind our web solutions and take what they think is relevant to their needs. The following explains our copyright policy in further detail.
Policy
The Pollen Shop asserts ownership of any material that indicates our copyright. All rights remain with us as the copyright holder.
We wish to encourage the circulation of our intellectual property as widely as possible without affecting its ownership.
Systems, procedures, solutions
We have an open access policy which allows individuals and organisations to replicate the systems, procedures or solutions that we have created or adopted.
We want you to take what you need, develop it and put it to good use. Please contact us if you have any questions on how to go about doing this.
Text
If you publish anything that is covered by our copywrite we simply require you indicate our authorship. If you wish to quote us don’t change anything. We would request that you include our web address www.thepollenshop.co.uk . It would also be nice if you told us what it is you have used; email info@thepollenshop.co.uk
Photographs and Images
Our Open Source copywrite policy does not extend to the photographs and images, for example, The Pollen Shop logo. To use this you must get permission; email info@thepollenshop.co.uk
Internet (Content)
Our open access policy does not extend to the content of the sites we have developed for other organisations. It is likely that any requests to use information, text or images will be treated favourably but you must ask them first. Full contact details are included on each site.
Internet (Code)
Please feel free to take our code.
If you are a student or are new to coding and want to ask questions email tech@thepollenshop.co.uk
Our sites are designed to be as accessible as possible to disabled people. We specialise in designing sites that conform to the Web Access Initiative’s Guidelines. We would commend this approach to other web developers and would request that they explore the techniques that we have used.
Shared ownership
Where ownership is held jointly the above policy does not reflect the wishes of other copyright owners.
